Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AI Meta Remover

1What is C2PA and why would I want to remove it?

C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) is a standard for embedding provenance information in digital content. It's often used by AI image generators like DALL-E, Midjourney, and Adobe Firefly to mark images as AI-generated. You might want to remove this metadata for privacy reasons, to prevent discrimination against AI-assisted work, or simply to have control over what information is embedded in your images.

2Are my images uploaded to your servers?

No, absolutely not. All image processing happens entirely in your web browser using JavaScript. Your images never leave your device. This is a core privacy feature of AI Meta Remover - we have no servers that receive, process, or store your images.

3What image formats are supported?

AI Meta Remover supports JPEG (JPG), PNG, and WebP image formats. These are the most common formats used by AI image generators and digital cameras.

4Does removing metadata affect image quality?

When using the 'Strip All Metadata' mode, we use canvas re-rendering which may result in slight quality differences. For JPEG images, we use high-quality settings (92% quality) to minimize any loss. The visual difference is typically imperceptible for most use cases.

5Can I keep some metadata while removing C2PA?

Yes! Our Metadata Editor allows you to selectively choose which metadata fields to keep or remove. You can preserve camera EXIF data (make, model, date) while removing AI credentials. You can also add your own custom metadata like copyright and author information.

6Is it legal to remove C2PA metadata?

In most jurisdictions, you have the right to modify metadata in images you own or have rights to. However, some jurisdictions may have laws requiring disclosure of AI-generated content in certain contexts (like political advertising). It's your responsibility to comply with applicable laws. We recommend consulting legal advice if you're unsure about your specific use case.

7What metadata can I add to my images?

You can add Artist/Author name, Copyright notice, Description, Keywords/Tags, Software information, and Date/Time. This is useful for establishing ownership of your work or adding proper attribution.

8How do I process multiple images at once?

Simply drag and drop multiple images onto the upload area, or click to select multiple files. All images will be queued for processing. Click 'Process All' to batch process them, then 'Download All as ZIP' to get all processed images in a single ZIP file.

9Why is the processed file size different from the original?

When metadata is removed or the image is re-encoded, the file size typically decreases because you're removing embedded data. The exact size difference depends on how much metadata was in the original file and the compression settings used.

10Does this tool work offline?

Once the page is loaded, yes! Since all processing happens in your browser, you can disconnect from the internet and the tool will continue to work. However, you need an internet connection to initially load the page.

11How can I verify the metadata was removed?

After processing, you can use online metadata viewers or tools like ExifTool to inspect the processed image. You can also re-upload the processed image to AI Meta Remover - it should show 'No C2PA Credentials Found' if the removal was successful.

12Is AI Meta Remover free to use?

Yes, AI Meta Remover is completely free to use with no limitations on the number of images you can process. There are no hidden fees, subscriptions, or premium tiers.
